Sketchy Chinese electrical workers - GIF

Sketchy Chinese electrical workers. Why is there a guy standing there with a large stick? I think that if the guy connecting the wires gets shocked, the stick handler uses the stick to separate his body from the source of electricity.

That's just amazing. There are so many things all going wrong at once.

Spotter with his safety driftwood being the obvious one.

Complete lack of any and all PPE. Forget arc flash protection, these guys don't even have hard hats or safety glasses.

No LOTO, and one can only assume no zero energy check. I don't see a multimeter.

Holding a metal allen key with a dirty old pair of pliers, the rubber handle being the only thing between bozo and cardiac arrest. That right there is just pure insanity. When he's turning the pliers/allen key his thumb gets mighty close to that metal.

What is that, twisted pair? Into what? How is he even terminating that with the allen key. I don't understand what's happening here.

What are these guys, 20? They're probably the oldest ones on site.

Best part if you look close, he closes his eyes when he's terminating the connection. You know, so he doesn't get flashed.

Twisted pair, wrapped around Allen Screw on end of Allen Key, being screwed directly into bus bar. Probably stealing power, twisted pair to double the current carrying capacity of the wire. No arc flash if load is switched off. I note that they are also standing on a dirt floor.

A stick is cheaper than a rope.

A friend of mine's wife is from that area of the world, her father was a motor mechanic his workshop was the gutter in the street (used as a pit). Stealing electricity is a way of life, it's the only way they can get it. Everything is done LIVE if you win...good oh, if you don't, it doesn't matter any more.
