    Those are normal sized chairs and the people are all giants. That's why the floor collapsed.

    Seriously though, what's with the floor? Is this a tofu dreg building? I'm really struggling to understand just how that particular kind of failure even happened. Did they lay tile directly on compacted dirt?

    If you look carefully at the right hand side of the hole you see a concrete space and tile layer. It is common to have a concrete layer then a thick grout layer in China to lay tile onto. If there is de-lamination as is evident there is something happening underneath this to wash out the subsurface. It can and does happen even here. A really quick thinking guy there. And he did whack himself quite hard. He'll feel that later for sure.
