I found this very interesting. This is the sort of method that Alexander Weygers would have promoted in his books, having had extensive experience in outback places, or at sea, where makeshift methods can sometimes remedy a tricky situation. Though I do not think it would be easy to get the pitch right and I am sure that my welds would not centre the bolt.
