Good, now they have scrap to make new batteries with.
All this is our future, every home having large banks of storage batteries of hopefully fireproof design.

I have to wonder if the three fire extinguishers shown at the 12 second mark would have worked better.

New product, called F500, mixed with water, extinguishes Lithium-Ion battery fires fast. The Pahrump Valley Fire Department just got it a few months ago, and on 17 September 2024 used it to put out 36,000 pounds of lithium-ion batteries that were on fire, as the result of a collision between the Semi carrying them and a semi loaded with 30,000 pounds of new lumber.

This stuff works, I volunteer with the Ny County NV Dept of Emergency Management and support the Pahrump NV FD, saw the demonstration of this stuff and then a month later the FD used it on the battery fire on highway 95 just north of town, near the Nevada Nuclear Test Site.

I'm retired from hospital maintenance. We were considered first responders for fires as well as several others emergency situations. Lithium batteries were just coming on the market and were nothing like today. I only knew from past videos that adding water to lithium only exacerbated the problem. I do not see any residue in the after-fire photos indicating what may have been used as an extinguisher media. Do any members have more insight? I have multiple ABC extinguishers in my home and shop as well as fire blankets and many lithium batters for my tools. What is best extinguisher in a home/shop for lithium fire?

I am not sure if the F500fa has a full certification as of yet for the lithium-ion batteries Its encapsulating abilities is certainly well known. An onboard system for extinguishing a fire on the EVs would be a great safety feature IMO.
