The Tandy TRS80 was light years ahead of that thing, I bought my girls an Atari and a commadore 64 back around 1980

Still it's nice to see where all this stuff started for the home market. We got the Kids an Odyssey 2 back around 78-79 because of the learning modules and speech synthesizer...not only fun but great learning tool (modules) for the little ones. Agreed the Radio Shack stuff was pretty good more as a computer than a game system. Same with the Atari's particularly the 2600 and the 5200 we used as a front end for testing our systems in the mid-late 80's. As for Commodore the 64 was impressive and remember writing business modules on it for a day care center friend back in the day. But the tape player was a piece of work. To me the distinction was the difference between Game machine and Game/computer. Keeping all this in mind the IBM PC XT came out then for a mere $6k...these home micro/game systems were only a few hundred bucks. I think I paid about $230 for the Odyssey 2 with 3 modules and well worth the learning and fun for the kids.

How far we've come in 27 computer evolution years (18mo.), now in Quantum territory and exaflops.
