Most people who own 4 wheel drive vehicles have absolutely no idea how to use them properly. I have a few 4 wheel drive vehicles. most don't run but the one that does is never off of the property and almost never needs to be in 4 wheel drive mode unless I am dragging a log out of the woods and even then if it ever spins once it will get stuck in the sand.

Most people don't know how to operate their toaster, and basic things in their house like a water heater is just indecipherable magic. If they ever got a flat in the middle of nowhere they'd just lay down and die rather than attempting to change a tire. If they understood what four wheel drive was for I would be astounded.

I live on the side of a big steep hill. My truck will dig holes in my driveway if I leave it in 2wd because the driveway is so horrendous. Getting to my house is basically offroading. The transfer case on my truck gets exercised about a half dozen times a day.
