    An engine designed by one of the Corliss imitators. A true Corliss engine has a wrist plate mounted centrally on the side of the cylinder block. This plate is driven off the crankshaft by a single connecting rod; it then drives four rods to the separately adjustable intake and exhaust valves. Corliss patented those features so his competitors had to do the workaround with two connecting rods to control the valves.
