No real mystery here this is vertical trenching, The reasons for this is they are planning on construction a tall building but first even before excavation for the footing or basement levels can be done the foundation and footing of the adjacent building must be protected the water slurry being pumped in maintains some pressure in the cavity as it is being excavated when the prescribed depth is obtained a steel framework of rebar will be lowered then concrete will be pumped via hoes which will be lowered to the bottom and raised as the concrete level rises once the concrete has set up enough to remain in place the next trench will be excavated until a barrier has been poured all the way around the perimeter of the new building Some of these vertical trenches can reach 60 to 100 feet in depth depending on how far down it is to bedrock
