I milled the bottom off a second hand 2-1/2” swiveling clamp on bench vise to make it more like ones I’ve admired in old catalogs.
The wider angle iron base makes it easy to clamp where I want to use it. The casting just attaches to that with a couple bolts.
It’s still a crappy portable vise but I don’t mind using it now, and for small stuff it’s alright how little the front jaw sticks out from the edge of the table.
