    Sheet Metal Filing Clamp

I've been making a lantern folded out of brass sheet and wanted an accurate edge to file to.

    Sheet Metal Filing Clamp-lantern-007.jpg

Just 2 pieces of 1/4" mild steel, edges case hardened and 2 6mm bolts.

This allows me to align the edge against the marked line and then to file to it.

Work in progress for the lantern on the lamp post engine...

Great idea OP. I have the same tool that is used to take barrel components on and off of an AK47/74. It's an ak47 barrel population tool. I'm thinking of making one out of aluminum for delicate work like you use it for.

I dig it. That's kind of a miniature moxon vice. Too bad (for me) that I didn't see this last summer when I fabricated the hardware for a guitar out of brass. A lot of time was wasted repositioning the brass every few minutes.

I'm gradually turning out the plans for this engine, but thought I would share an image of the very simple way I drew the lantern that was then folded

This is the engine then running, the small generator is driven by the flywheel

Excellent work indeed. I'm both impressed and a little bit jealous.

Hi, just checked and the plans are there, the blue button in the bottom left takes you to a payment page and then you receive an email and are able to download, image below was taken from the page and shows the button

Hope this works now, best regards, Nigel

I have to say that Myfordboy is making a great version of the lamppost engine with an elegant cast base. The video takes you through his home casting setup:

There is something very rewarding when someone takes your design and builds on it. I'm really looking forward to the finished engine.
