    I like you approach by starting with 6061 aluminum to fine tune your technique and the vise looks very good.

    I really don't have any use for it, But it does make a nice little paperweight.

    Sometimes you get a tool because you have a use for it. Sometimes you get the tool, then find a use for it. Either is perfectly acceptable, especially when they look this good.

    Let's see; potential uses for an aluminum vise ??

    Giant clamp-on heat sink

    Soldering vise (most solders won't stick to aluminum) although, since it's a heat sink, this may be a non-starter

    Holding parts for electrolysis or application of caustic substances that would rust steel vises

    There must be other (serious) uses but that's all I have for now.

    A tiny micarta clamp.

    Given it's current status as a paperweight, then a penholder would be a somewhat practical use. Only somewhat because they'd fall out unless you clamped them in.
