    My neighbor where I grew up came up with the trash-compactor for the Apollo missions. Instead of hydraulics he used a screw drive. That style is still used today...

    I get 389 short tons on your cylinder Frank. That's a lot of squishing!

    It was actually quite a bit less than that because the 50 hp power unit could only develop around 3000 PSI but still close to a 300 ton compaction The shear blades on both sides could shear 20mm x100 mm flat bar with some difficulty though but the machine was mostly used for compacting sheet metal I think I still have a picture of the power unit but can't locate any pictured of the working press
