Satisfying one-day grinder prettify

Son was roughing out some knife blanks in the shop Sunday, so I just wanted to hang around in the A/C. Took the opportunity to go through and lube and paint Grandad's old grinder. It was like this -

Now it's purty -

Made new side covers from some 3003 full-soft aluminum; carefully peened into the end of a scrap of 3" pipe -

Until early 70's, there was a chain of auto body shops, specializing in 'paint' jobs. Anyway they advertised "....$10.00 free metalwork on any car". At labor rates of that period, $10 not much more than kicking a door or fender panel.
I'd warrant few of their guys could have done this so neatly, carefully, via inventive use of pipe.

Hey, thanks - that was the first time I'd done that. Afterwards, it became apparent that NEXT time, I'll radius the inside edge of the pipe to keep from scratching the aluminum around the bulge.
