    Safe Think.

    Hello all,
Well a lot of people are playing with their new presents and the 'accident' rate has increased as per usual at this time of year. These incidences are often the result of someone watching a video on Youtube or some 'home handyman' type program on TV and thinking "that looks easy" and 'having a go' without any knowledge of how to approach the task and without any thought as to what they are doing.

Then again sometimes it is just overconfidence, complacency, absolute necessity or plain stupidity. No matter what please think about what you are going to do, how you are going to do it and then think about it again before starting, stay safe and have an 'accident' free new year.

This video shows someone who seems to have a lot of experience but I am damn sure that there were safer approaches to the job.

There are times to economize and others not too. Doesn't appear a accustomed worker, but he knows someone with a ~32' something ladder to borrow from.

I'm quite sure he is well accustomed to the job he was doing. It is defiantly not his first trip up a ladder of that length. For one if this were a replacement of one of the split unit aircons. he had already removed the old one which means on his first accent he carried little more than a short length or rope to tie off the ladder a screwdriver and most likely a 10" adjustable to disconnect the Freon lines and the electrical cord. He would have lifted the unit off of its mounting hooks and carried it down rather than just dropping it since no matter how badly it was damaged or worn out there would be salvageable parts or could possibly be cleaned painted and a capacitor or compressor replacement then sold.
If this was a new install, again he would have climbed the ladder tied it off used a hammer and star drill to make the holes to secure the brackets then carried up the unit. The novel way they charge those units is to connect the Freon tank up to the pressure line leaving the return line slightly loose then flood the system until Freon comes out at a full flow for a minute or 2 then close it up allow the tank to fill a little more Freon in the system then start the unit watch the gages when satisfied remove the tank and gage set and give you the bill, never using a vacuum pump or leak detector
