It looks to me like that hammer or punch head may be a bit heavy for a simple, tappy-tappy friction fit. I have a mental image of someone taking a good, long swing and that head launching across the shop. No wedge required to hold that head on the handle?

Isn't it true that punches aren't swung like a hammer? I thought they were held in position by the handle and struck on the top with a separate hammer to drive them through the workpiece. Am I wrong?

Marv is correct - but to noob's point I did notice some of the other tools in the "hammer rack" were wedged, including one of the flatters which is used in a similar fashion to the hot punch. Personally I'd want the handle wedged just so if I was rough dropping it back in the rack, I'd have confidence that the handle would remain in the head.
