Just goes to show you; sometimes you should just stand your ground and watch what is happening around you rather than trying to scramble in a panic.

It would really help to have first removed all body mounted encumbrances.

I think anyone in that situation would be in panic mode. That happens so fast and can kill you in a second. You only have time to react, not stand there and think about. The only mistake I see is he may not have planned his escape route well, or forgot it in the moment. He likely wouldn't have expected the tree doing that, as it was only rotten in the centre.

I grew up in the logging business. You don't have time to think. I seen many hurt or almost killed. Once a tree limb fell and knock my dead out cold. It is much safer now with all the equipment! That guy should be dead! He better thank Jesus for sparing him!
