I have a nice 4" rotary table that is just right for my mini mill. However I wanted to use it on my Sherline mill. A little large but it fits my plate.
I also had the Sherline 3" chuck and an older 3" 4 Jaw import. Both of these chucks were threaded 3/4-16 so my job was obvious.
The Rotary table had a 5/16-18 allen flat head retaining the shaft of the table. The hole was not threaded all the way through
the table and was a bit on the large size for the 5/16-18 thread to have a lot of engagement but there was enough. So I made an extra
long adapter with 5/16-18 on one end that was long enough to engage 3 threads of the original retaining bolt threads. I cut 3 threads from the
original retaining bolt to give my new 5/16-18 adapter at least 3 good threads. Ran a tap through the entire center of the table.
The new adapter fits well and I have used it recently to make my new offset center.
Another note is the 4 jaw import can be mounted 3 ways. There are 4 counter bored holes for T-slots, a groove near the back for tooling plate hold downs, and the new threaded arbor.
Cheers, JR
