the way it jumps abit, I'd guess they laid the track long enough to point it in the right direction, then the rocket keeps going in that direction off the track, and into the minefeild. With the track in place, they can send one rocket after another along the same path until they know there is a clear straight line through the area - or advance the track to the previously exploded mine crater, then keep sending along the same straight line.
