Me and a friend of mine bought a 2 axle RGN trailer with a 3rd flip axle about a year ago then sold the flip axle for nearly as much as we paid for the trailer. So it came down to either scrap it for about as much as we sold the flip axle for or rebuild the neck then determine how much we want to spend on the trailer itself
What it started out as
some of the scrap removed
nearly 400 lbs of rust was beat off with a needle gun
more rust removed chemically
wrapped in plastic to allow the chemical to work over night
rolling 2 pieces of 3/8x 4 1/2 T1 steel in my homemade plate roll
strapping the neck
Making cardboard patterns for the webs
webs welded in place
installing replacement king pin and plate
ready to go back together
new cross members and side rails
web stiffeners for D rings
Welds in slots cut through side rails
D ring mounts welded over slot welds tying the loop to the stiffener
ground sanded washed with a solution ready for rinsing drying and painting
first coat of paint after being dusted with an etching primer for the hard to reach areas is could not sand very well
