Retratable internal external screw cutting tool videos

    Hi All
Finally cut some threads with the retractable tool I have been working on for the last month or so. There are two videos one cutting an internal thread (M16x2) and the other cutting an external thread (M8x1.25). (This second video also shows my back stop being used)

Overall, I am pleased with design and the first cut threads, with only a few minor tweaks to the design needed to improve it.(I am sure there will be other improvement/comments from the knowledgeable HMT members, which I look forward to). I could do with a surface grinder to finish it off nicely but unfortunately, I don’t have one or access to one. The project was mostly made from recycled materials.

If anyone could also recommend a free video editing package/app that a complete novice could use I would be very grateful. I do apologies for the poor camera work but I am sure you will get the idea on how the tool works.

    Just a precision please

    Hi,
Nice idea in place of two separate tools, my question is how you make to stay precise against rotation of the tool holder head part, in my experience this is a possible angular movement of the tool when making deep threads with the deported cutter, have you tested that ?
    Have a nice day.

    Hi Pierre
There are two pins, which prevent any rotational movement of the head.
I plan to get the drawings finished this week. I need to make a few minor amendments to a couple of things and update the drawings. They will then be available on HMT to purchase.
Thank you again for your interest

Thanks for your answer, when proofing such a tool time ago, I had the same idea with a second 10mm. pin behind the command one pushed in the two directions with springs to assist the movement in place of the normal dovetail ridgid but expansive to make..
