Repairing a 1-Ton Arbor Press

Thank you, but I don't think of assembling parts someone else made for me to be "home made" by me. It would be like claiming to be the "maker" of an Ikea bookshelf. Michael Porter is the man who made the burner, I just assembled the parts he sent me. After 7 years and 3 months of a precision manual machining course, I'm pretty sure that now I could make one, but that is not what happened with the burner in the photos. Mikey made 'em! All the credit for that is his alone.

I built some Mikey burners a few years ago. Back then the book was only $20.00 so I bought it. I also have a pdf copy on my phone for quick reference.

They go from the smallest made from a ballpoint pen for the nozzle to the large ones using mig nozzles and parts turned on the lathe. The big one is blowing into the end of a fire extinguisher and melting glass inside. It also heats the shop to 90° in just a few minutes from near freezing. With a stack of fire brick, it gets steel up to forging temperature.

All these and more were done to see if Mikey's numbers were scalable. They scale nicely from very small flames to over 2" pipes. The first 2 have long tubes so I could play with injector depth. The last one I turned a piece to direct flow better and I go a very nice laminar flow. I only used electrical tape to hold it together. It actually gets fairly cold where the tape is. It has been about 12 years since I built these so edits came to mind after the fact.
