Having never worn contacts I can't even begin to imagine having 23 of them in my eye socket. How can that not become painful long before that many were lost inside. Maybe the eyes become desensitized over time

Same for me, Frank. Forgive my frankness this person is a dumb-ass. Having used hard and soft contacts, I accidentally slept in my contacts one time and it was VERY obvious.

This is a great example of the success of gas permeable soft contact lens material that can be worn and tolerated by eyes without aggravating eye tissues. Fortunately, the tissue in the white (sclera) of eyes has ample underlying blood vessels that provide cellular nutrients and oxygen. Since the cornea is, normally, devoid of blood vessels, it gets oxygen dissolved in tears when our eyes are open. During sleep, oxygen for corneal cellular requirements is dispersed by blood vessels in the tissue underlying eyelids.

How much you want to bet this is the result of her passing out drunk every night? Numb to the world and expecting a headache in the morning.

I just can't pass up an opportunity like this to not post one of the many adventures that passed through my optometry office a few decades ago... A tourist in YNP had sought medical attention from a GP, working in the park. She went to him, complaining that she had a soft contact lens stuck to her eye. So, he took her at her word, and tried to remove a contact from her cornea with a spud tool (stainless steel probe with turned up edges on its tip). Problem was that there was no contact stuck on her eye, so the spud gouged off much of the outer layer (epithelium) of the cornea. When the anesthetic wore off the gal knew she was in trouble, and phoned me. It was fairly easy for me to assess the damage to her cornea, which probably wasn't there, prior to her going to the "real doctor." I had a stereo microscope with which to evaluate eye problems... I've never seen such microscope in an GP's office. But, that doesn't prevent them from doing the best they can without the proper tools.

23 forgotten contact lenses in one eye? Wow. And I thought my memory was bad.

Almost as bad as the woman I know who didn't realize she was pregnant but went to the emergency room because she was feeling very bad. Within a short time of being there, she delivered twins. Yes, twins.
