Probably to contend with injury yes. But not without a barricade! That spray and pray stuff is so infantry or CQB. I'll sit on the hill, save ammo and aim.
Civil War uniforms of Officers, Calvary, Artillery men and others used a holster on the left side, with the handgun grip forward. That provided access for either hand should one be injured

Never seen a real Ak dressed up in plastic. Did see a captured one that the previous user had done some carving on the shoulder stock the pistol grip and the fore stock to fit his tiny hands and arm length though. Judging by the mods the guy couldn't have been more than 4' 6" in height and probably could have put both hands in a single small glove
