    Eek. I was taught never to cross line over your body when tying. If something heavy or strong, think horse or cargo, were to move suddenly, it could be surgical.

    I was going to say, I've never been fond of rope-tying techniques that require even the briefest entrapment of body parts – and for that very reason.

    The Sampna Hitch is MUCH better than this Reindeer Knot (hitch).

    The Reindeer has the release loop held directly in the bight, so while under load it is VERY hard to release.

    The Sampan has the release loop held by a wrap on either side so it releases MUCH more readily and then the all the wraps just fall apart.
