Rebuilding engine timelapse

Rebuilding engine timelapse. It's floating around the net as a GIF, but the video soundtrack is so fitting (In The Hall of the Mountain King) that the short video is superior. The photography of this project likely consumed more time than the actual engine rebuilding.

Can anyone name the engine?

I'm going to guess Triumph Spitfire. The twin infamous SU/Stromberg carbs and the tilt front bonnet/hood. Oh, and the Triumph logo on the shift knob.

I'm going to say filthy. Is it so hard to clean an engine BEFORE pulling it and AFTER it is out before starting a teardown.Very unprofessional.

Looks like a typical Triumph unit to me -1300 or 1500 block, twin HS2's. The 1500 HL unit looked very similar - around 75 bhp

Looks like a typical Triumph unit to me - say 1300 or 1500. Twin HS2's so I'd say 1500 unit, around 75 bhp as fitted to Dolomite 1500 HL.

By the color of the block I would have to say a Triumph, BMC A series 1500cc.

You have nailed it, according to the spitfire club the original block color was black.

Yup, now that you mention it, it was black. Made it REALLY hard to see leaks of any kind. I wonder if that was why the color

I loved the looks of the Spitfire, wanted one for my first car so bad I could taste it. Had the $$. But my dads mechanic said stay away so we ended up going halves on a '57 Karman Ghia. Who knows how much one of them is worth now.

There are a lot of rare cars and car club meets around here. Regularly see meets of old 356 Porshe, Bug eye Sprites, MG's, Morris Minor, TR4/6, Jag's,even an European Ghia. But I've never seen another running Spitfire since the late 80's early 90's. Were there not that many made?
