It is bad luck to remove volcanic stuff from Hawaii!!!
Mom brought home an ashtray with Pele (the Hawaiian Goddess of volcanos) bathing in the crater full of lava, and supposedly carved from lava. I have no idea what happened to it, but I've known a couple of people who brought black sand from the beach there back to CONUS, and then mailed it back after they started having "bad luck." And I've got a couple of albums of Hawaiian Cool Jazz, one is one my step-father brought back from Hawaii, and one of it's sequels I found in a thrift shop in Cali when I was a teen. Taboo: The Exotic Sounds of Arthur Lyman, and The Legend of Pele
The Pele in the ashtray isn't quite a cute as the one on the album cover, as Pele is both crone & maiden, and her face on the ashtray is half one and half the other. A quick search didn't find anything like we had... but that was long, long, ago, and far, far, away, and may have been in another universe.
