The other day working on my 57 chevy truck, the lower radiator hose is 1.5" ID. The new water pump is 1.75" OD. I thought I would fight getting the hose to stretch on. I sprayed it with Teflon mold release that I had laying around for general lubrication, and the hose just slipped on without any fight. The hose is reinforced with what must be nylon woven fabric.

Is this tool for those guys who cannot be bothered with getting a little grease or oil on their hands or for the guys who install 100s per day on an assembly line.
I see the usefulness as a time saver for assembly line work and a time eater for the individual who is only going to do a couple of hoses. by the time he can haul the thing out load it up with solution lube the hose ends he could have done like Metric Taper did. Then there is still the clean up and stowing it away when done.
Never try to tell me it can't be done
When I have to paint I use KBS products

I thought in a production setting that hoses are delivered for JIT assembly with silicone lube applied by the hose manufacturer. I'm with you, for one off this method would be problematic.
None of the other hoses had difficulties on my truck, I spent more time with the hose clamps, and I was using a nut driver, as you know how well you can drive a slotted screw driver while leaning over the engine.
Now taking real old hoses off is a totally different problem. And if they are on a true hose barb fitting, .....(the cussing in my mind has already started).

Yep and then there are the ones with the steel spiral inside so even cutting them causes the angels to lose their hearing

The ultimate (usually) hose loosening tool is a cotter pin puller/ hook. Essentially a small drift punch, curved, with a screwdriver type handle. Web search will display many versions under "cotter pin puller" & "radiator hose puller".
Correctly formed type is around 1/4"Ø, 5" or 6" long and a offset portion leading into the 90° bent section and tip.
The design more like O-ring picks are not.

They also work well as hoof picks for the equestrian set. DAMHIKT.
