    quick Temporary chuck key

I needed to remove the jaws of a 6" 4 jaw chuck to see if it could be utilized in an application I am working on but I didn't have a small enough chuck key for it. not wanting to spend time making a chuck key if the old chuck was not going to work out I dug through my taps and found one of my 1/2 13 taps had just the right size square the others were too large. I screwed 2 nuts on the tap and lightly jammed them together, with a 3/4" box end wrench the jaws were out in a jiffy

Interesting solution. I discovered that a 3/8” drive socket extension fits perfectly in the keyhole of my 6” 3-jaw.

    my 5" 3 jaw uses 3/8" and the 6" 4 jaw uses 5/16"
Taps with their wide range of squares make the perfect go to when you need a square drive and need it now just find a couple of nuts thread them on lock them together wrench on the nut farthest from the square for turning to the right and the nut closest to the square for turning to the left.
