Old_Toolmaker, not only are these Eye Candy but the design is quite brilliant, imho. I look forward to Jon posting your plans!

I noticed in pic 3 there is a dowel or gauge pin being used as a stop...is that for using smaller tool bits with out changing the holder setting? Nice idea also if it is.

Sorry on the late show here but so glad I save that email for this!

    Thanks Much!

    PJs,
Thank you for the nice complement!
You are correct, the dowel pin is being used as spacer because the tool bit I chose to use is smaller than what the QC Turret was designed for.

No Dick, I have no shop time, I am fighting termite damage this summer.

    Possible this winter.

I have a 7x12 mini lathe which I thought the small QCTP would work on.
I also have a 12x36 lathe which I figure your larger QCTP would work on.

Those tool posts should work out fine. I have had the small QC tool post on my mini lathe and it works out well. What part of the country do you live? I am assuming you are somewhere in the south with the termite issues. I hope you are able to get them under control.

I am on the eastern end of Long Island NY.

Close to actually putting siding back on the sill has been replaced and framing up 2 feet.
I started by myself Memorial Day this spring.

I wondered too, how/ what four-sided cam could be actuated and deliver equal and sufficient clamping at each side; tough! Then, a single cam is less desirable for changes by disturbing unintended holders. Your solution is far more effective and sensible. The turret feature makes this stellar! This can really generate parts, do you use a DRO? Had you ever tested the repeatability? About the Vee'd holder; the horizontal aspect is obvious, what did you expect from the vertical? That might be a holder missing from all the commercial QC sets...and an opportunity...

And the dowel. Beside solving height of a small bit, it cures my issue about QCTPs. It can shed chips collecting on the post and disturbing intended centerline adjustments.

    Toolmaker51,

    Those are all good questions!
Yes, I do use a DRO. Repeat-ability is within a few tenths on each tool. About the vertical Vee:I just put that in there on the off chance it might be useful. I use a vertical milling head on my lathe so sometimes it is handy to have it there when I need to drill a vertical hole through a shaft and I need the additional clearance. Although I have not used it much.
