    A Quick Acting Strap Buckle

Forming a loop on the working end of a strap is easy. Just tie a knot. The pain comes when you try to untie that damn knot. A less painful method is to use a double slot buckle. Fish the working end through the buckle, form your loop, and then pass the end back through the buckle. It will be strong, yet is far easier to undo. I like this buckle, but I don't like all of that fiddling around. The buckle presented here is similar but easier to install and remove. Its geometry makes it stronger, which means it can be made from thinner and softer metal.

Vikings, among many others including Romans, used this form of clasp for their cloaks. This Google images search shows some examples...

Thanks for both the idea and the engineering analysis of the stress points. The install-without-threading and quick release properties make it a winner.

Beyond the amazing art of these clasps, they were smart enough to attach the center bar so it would not get lost.

    Thanks!
