    I will have to disagree. That key does not “force” you to lock the door. You could just as well take the key out from the same side that you locked the door & put it in your pocket!

    Not quite, the design of the lock would prevent the key from being removed from the same side without turning it another 90° which would relock the bolt making it impossible to fully close the door unless the bolt was as beveled striker that was spring loaded in which case once the striker fully extended upon closing the door would be locked because it is the key which allows engagement with the handle and the striker without the key the handle would not retract the striker.
