Interesting design and nice build. Two observations: A longer stroke would increase blade life and why is there no provision for angle cuts?

I've considered getting or making a power hacksaw many times over the years, but I can never really think of why I'd need one or where it would be a better choice than the bandsaw, for example. Top that off with the fact that it's very slow cutting, and I always end up putting the idea away every time it pops up. So, why do I need a power hacksaw? What is is better at than other options?

For topical application, only. Not to be taken internally or used in com-
bination with other drugs or alcohol, except as directed by your shaman.
Do not operate heavy equipment, unless you actually know how to.

The best answer I can think of is the challenge of designing and building it.

    Please see here my version,
using 12V car wiper-motor, and a ratchet wheel to gradually press down the blade frame. The saw is mounted on a ball bearing drawer runner slide. The WiFi symbol is there only because I used a hotel door-key to activate the ratchet... A micro switch cuts the power when the cut is finished, here a 8 mm steel rod.
