Power feeding a shredder knob

Hi,
My Stihl shredder is a great gardenning tool, it's powerfull and reliable, but it is inevitable that from time to time, it gets clogged...


To fix that, you need to unscrew both of the black knobs on the front (maybe 20 revolutions each), clean the blades up, re-screw both of the knobs, start again, and sometimes, it can happen more often than desirable, you get quickly tired of screwing, unscrewing with both hands ...

I had the idea to speed up the process, using a power screwdriver. So I needed a big socket that could fit on the knob.

In order to check how I could do that I initially 3D modelized the knob, I was thinking doing something with my CNC out of wood.



But I realized I had this big brass fitting sitting on a shelf, and it could do just right with "little" work.

So I decided to go the conventional way, using my mill and my lathe. (I like it !)

Couldn't you have more simply replaced the plastic capped bolts with regular bolts and used a socket in your drill? Or am I missing something?

As I was told by my father, never ask someone how much it cost unless you can not buy it. Well never ask WHY when some one creates a piece of art like that and to my guess works well. I thought it was very nice the way he created his beautiful tool to make his job easier. Thank you Chris.

Christophe, and others, my sincere apologies if my first comments were taken as being whatsoever derogatory, that most certainly was not intended.

I always try and solve a problem with a simple solution and one that is easy to implement. In this case I could see an easier, simpler and quicker solution, that's the only reason I mentioned it. I suggest the majority of followers of this site do not use CAD CAM software or have access to a 3D printer and err towards a simple approach.

Christophe, you have produced a very creative and elegant solution which doesn't require modification to your shredder although if I may say, a somewhat complex one. Congratulations on your win.

No need to apology Bony, there's no trouble at all, your remark was absolutely relevant, but I never miss an occasion to play with my tools and to give myself some challenges.
Here I did know this brass copler I had could fit, but it was not easy to predict the exact milling to be done with precise dimensions . Hence the 3d modelling, I could make some virtual cuts and see the intersection between the cylinder with the odd shape of the button.
It's just fun for me, I like doing this, and I was initially thinking of doing the complementary shape of the button with my small cnc, stacking layers of plywood I would have cut following the different sections of my drawing.
But at the end I had fun playing with my conventional mill and the rotary table.
But for sure, do not see any logic but trying to have fun with my tooling and finding solution to unprobable challenges I set to myself.
