Power Feed for Warco GH Major Milling Machine

So this week I'll be starting a project that i've been planning for a few weeks. After getting tired of turning the hand wheel like carzy while milling, I looked into purchacing a power feed for my Warco GH milling machine. However the £400 price tag made me put it off for a while. Then I discovered a few on youtube that had made there own power feed and decided to give it a go myself.

My design will use a NEMA 34 stepper motor and belt / pulleys. These will all be mounted on a bracket that will be made using some 50mm x 100mm alloy box section. The design will also allow for the hand wheel to be used if required.

If it works well I plan to make similar brackets for the other 2 axis in the future for a possible CNC conversion.

After much research on how to get my nema 34 to work with a potentiometer, this week I got my power feed finished and working. Video is up on youtube if your interested in doing something similar with stepper motors.

If your planning on making this for your own milling machine let me know and I will send you my drawings. Also I'd recommend using the following parts for the electrics, they worked well!

    Just an update!

I now used this power feeder in real life cutting test. I am happy with the the result and finish on the parts.

After now using this several times now I'm finding that the belt is slipping on the lead screw pulley. I believe this is due to the pulley not being perfectly square to the lead screw. In the near future I plan strip it down, replace the belt and see if I can square the pulley up.
