"flat/ chisel edge at each end"
"The point end was placed inside a large split pins"

Are both ends flat or is one end pointy?

Hi every one, in Australia we use these for steel erection. The taper end is for lining up bolt holes and the taper end for lifting and leveling. We call these tools a "Podger bar".

hopefully someone might know what this tool is... forged steel, flat/ chisel edge at each end, rest of the body is round in cross section except the end at the top of the image, no markings. Ruler in the image is metric millimeters.

Nope, sorry John 1938 --- NOT a Podger bar, a Podger bar has a pointy end to stick into holes, to force the two holes into alignment and normally has something like a hammer head at the other end, or sometimes a spanner. This bar in question, ----- has flats at both ends.

In 1974 I bought a large split pin selection kit., 800 pieces, 1.2mm to 6,4mm, that had 2 of those split pin Tommie bars included, 1 small and one large. I still have both, and a myriad splitpins.
