    PJs Knurl Calculator

Calculate material diameters for knurling quickly and accurately, based on your knurl wheels. This can be used on computers/laptops, tablets or cell phones that have a spreadsheet program or app. Personally I use it on my tablet in the shop.

This is simple to use spreadsheet with two sheets allows you to calculate material diameters in Imperial and Metric forms based on your knurl diameters. It is pre-loaded with LMS and some Zeus (metric) knurl wheel data.

Additionally there is a section below the main table (on each sheet) that allows you to enter your tooth count and measured wheel diameters for the most accurate diameters of material size, ensuring you will get good knurls every time. Once you enter the data for "Your Wheels" the Calculator Cells will automatically populate.

I have also added "Material to Remove" row that will automatically calculate how much material to remove based on your material measurement. I found this quite handy after taking a skim cut or working with odd size materials that I could use my compound dial setting to remove the necessary material prior to setting up the knurling tool.

Please note: All cells are locked except the "data entry" cells to insure the integrity of the labels, formulas, functions and tables built into the spreadsheet. If you would like to learn more about how the spreadsheet works and how I developed it you can visit my knurling pages and read (slog through) my dissertation.

As most of the regulars here know this was a Tool of the Week for me and have had a tremendous viewing of that Must Read Thread. Because of the issues with keeping a Live Spreadsheet on my website and my Great Appreciation for HomemadeTools.net and all the wonderful people I have encountered here, I have decided to donate the proceeds of the first 1000 copies of this little tool to HMT. A small way for me pay forward all I have learned and fun I've had these last few years here on this great forum. If you feel the same I encourage you to make a small donation by purchasing this useful tool.

    Happy Knurling! ~PJ

Hi Jim - no problem, I can see your order. You should only need to download it once, but the system gives everyone 3 downloads. I've just reset you to 3 more downloads, so please give it another try. If that doesn't do it, I'll email you the calculator directly.

PJs I downloaded your Knurling calculator about a month ago. I hardly ever do any Knurling but thought it would be a nice reference tool to have for those times when I do need to make a few knurls. However most of my knurling was done on an ID as in valve guides not using wheels but a broach

Thanks Frank! I hope you find it handy and useful when you do some knurling. I remember knurled valve guides from my automotive days. It saved them for a while and kept them a bit cooler too as I remember.

somewhat the same color. Can we fix this?
    Thanks
