    Pivoting jaw tongs

This is half a pair of flat jaw tongs; the other half broke at the boss.
Not needing another pair of flat jaw tongs, and having seen on Pinterest a pair of pivoting jaw tongs, I decided to make one.

I estimate I used 6 to 8 gallons of charcoal to do this! I am sure there are many who could do better
    Here is the finished product

I understand that they are useful for holding a tanged tool, so probably tongs like these are handy for knife-makers. I have never made a knife although in my twenties, I wanted to.

    Nice reclaim Philip.
Not being a knife maker either, the pivoting jaw does look like it would be good for griping a tang. A slight "V" grove in both jaws would also seem to me as being useful.
I hope someday soon to be able to quit fooling around with all of the trivialities of completing my shop and have some spare time to fire up my forge for some serious tong making

Despite having done little smithing, and no plans ahead, this still interests me. We use swiveling members in rigid clamping like vises, but never seen used in a portable type tool.
