I watched this being done with gigantic HDPE pipes in the Alberta oil patch. It was about 20 years ago so my memory might be a bit distorted, but I remember them being about 40" diameter. Biggest plastic pipes I've ever seen.

I loved that portable lathe to finish the ends of the pipes. I was cerified to do up to 4" pipe. I t would have been fun to do large pipe.
One day while doing a section of my boss insisted we work even though the temperature was below 0°.
The gas in the fuel filter on our generator would freeze.
