4WD also gives a false sense or security also. You can make them go, but they don't stop any better. Some guys, with locking rear ends, find out very quickly it is not good to them them locked when you try to turn.
True that. My dad said you should never take a 4WD anywhere you wouldn't take a 2WD. He had a '65 Econoline van, the mid-engine job, and we took that thing all over the SoCal desert and up into the Sierra Nevada. Never got stuck, either.
