    This method would never hold up in a rental property. Should've used a wooden block backer, screwed into the drywall, before attaching the drywall filler piece.

    It's exactly what gets done in rentals around here. Quick and cheap lipstick on a pig kind of work. Doing it right costs more.

    Exactly right, do the repair PROPERLY! It's not difficult to do a GOOD job instead of a cheap fix.

    it is MINIMAL extra cost to do the job PROPERLY. What happens if the "repairer" and I use the term loosely! doesn't have a suitable sized hole saw, or if the hole is substantially irregular (larger). It then has to be done the way Inflight stated, the correct way (and I agree).

    Apart from doing the job correctly, the nett result of a correctly applied repair, is a less visible repair. This method leaves a "huge" patch on the wall, when a proper repair leaves almost no patch and certainly no large "lump" on the wall.

    I've seen much worst repairs though. Like just packing the hole with crumpled paper then plastered over it
    Never try to tell me it can't be done
    When I have to paint I use KBS products
