Looks suspiciously like JB Weld, although I think someone is being a bit disingenuous with the drill and hammer.

Yes it does look like JB weld but many 2 part epoxies look the same. One thing I noticed was his lack of proper surface preparation. You never want to rely on the bond between paint and metal or epoxy on paint to achieve ultimate bond strength,
Never try to tell me it can't be done
When I have to paint I use KBS products

    It's load bearing paint.

I suppose, since he acted like he couldn't even drill through the stuff either.

How long is that going to last? Would you want to go away for the weekend hoping not to come home to a house full of water. With plumbing do it once and do it properly. For the sake of a few dollars for a new fitting which is about how much the JB weld costs.

The taper the insert is laid against does not supply any support, nor is there any adhesive to set the insert to the body. I just cannot see how that would hold under any pressure.
Whare can I find me some of that there load bearing paint? hahaha
Really, though, would even powder coat offer any load bearing?

JB weld is some pretty amazing stuff, but I wouldn't trust it in this case as Bony says. However those valves aren't cheap.

Well JB Weld isn't the only 2-part fixer. The undisputed king of the field are product of Belzona https://www.belzona.com
These compounds were in common use at the pump shop. Pump builds destined for severe use, got interior treatment of Scotch Coat that can only be removed fully by industrial oven.

We used a lot of Belzona in the caterpillar rebuild shop I worked at for 5 years makes JB weld look like hardened silly putty
