what is the 'warning" he's getting at ~5s mark where he's moving the wheel, then all of a sudden running? is there a 'tell" he's picked up on?

doing a bit more research and thinking it through, I suspect he's heard the 'clicking"/ popping sound that precedes a zipper failure. it looks like a zipper failure on the edge of the tread/ sidewall.

I was also wondering how he knew to run.

on the assumption that the above comment is related to a call for this forum to focus only on home made tooling, I respectfully will say that discussions like this (which serve to educate people in safety) have a place here.
I have had tyres on wheelbarrows fail spectactularly, and a lot of the tools we build/ design need to have some safety elements included. Understanding how things fail, (materials, components, people) allows us to plan for that in our designs, or intended usage.

I will also admit that some of the videos shown here may only serve as a warning, but for me that is a little bit of comic releif, and not a distraction.

    YMMV

I actually saw that happen once I was much younger. (you ever notice how most of the crazy stuff happens when we are younger) I was working at an auto salvage yard. We had a big rough terrain forklift with large high pressure pneumatic tires. As I drove my yard buggy up to drop off some parts I had collected for a customer, I saw that forklift sitting close to the customer parking lot.

There was a bulge like that one in the video, "growing" out the side of one of those big tires. It was nearing the size of a basket ball, and becoming translucent as the rubber got thinner an thinner. All I could do was watch. Did not take long for it to pop with a huge BANG that sounded like an explosion, blowing gravel all over. Followed buy that loud whistling sound as the remaining air escaped from the tire.

Fortunately no one was injured buy flying debris.

I do enjoy the "off topic" discussions also. They ad some diversification to the content.
