    Oil pump primer

If your engines oil pump drive is shared with the distributor drive an old distributor shaft can be used to prime the oiling system before starting a newly rebuilt engine, by simply attaching the shaft to an electric drill.

Just ensure you are turning it the correct way. Some oil pumps turn Counterclockwise, some Clockwise.

An excellent point! That would be a bad mistake to make...

What a brilliant idea, having just rebuilt my series 2a landrover engine, I've been stressing about turning it over dry for quite some time.

    Thank you ......!!

Definitely something I should've mentioned in the post, the direction should follow the engines firing order,
installing a mechanical oil guage with an opaque oil line would also allow you to observe the flow of oil and let you know the kind of oil pressure your drill will produce.

    Your welcome Norm
