Ocean trash.. When I was in the military on a ship it was common practice then.. (1970 ish) for the ships to withhold in port garbage collection prior to deployment, then it was all thrown overboard once we got so far out to sea.. I remember watching miles and miles of floating trash as this was common practice in its time, all ships did this, after all it didn't cost anything.

Subs did it too but they really didn't have an option at the time. I'm not sure how they dispose of their garbage now when out at sea for prolonged periods. I can't imagine they still dump it overboard or flush it out of a torpedo tube.
Stupid is forever, ignorance can be fixed.

Amazed there was no fish in the net. Whenever we fish offshore, we look for debris because it always holds fish

I always figured subs and other ships could find us easily just by following the trash dumped overboard, bags were supposed to be riddled by holes so it would sink, out of site out of mind... Just think of how many ship's still do this awful practice.
