Waste.
We all encounter it. We all make it. Sometimes we deplore it. Especially if it’s others’ waste.
I’m a bit sad today because a solid mahogany wardrobe, antique, got broken up. What a shame!
It was donated by the charity’s founder, before he downsized and moved away. The guys promptly broke the mirror. Well, accidents happen, I certainly can’t criticize other for their mishaps. So I measured the size, gave it to the boss, and said I’d fix it if they got another. Then it sat in the warehouse for two years, in the way but useful for putting stuff in. I considered buying a mirror out of my own pocket, out of respect. Then six weeks back, they took it to the shop, because, I thought, someone might purchase it as a restoration project.
Today I was at the shop and looked round for it, finding the base, without its drawer.
What happened? “I broke it up.”
That was SOLID MAHOGANY. FIGURED mahogany. Unobtainable from timber merchants. Only available as reclaim, which we have sold in the past, on the Net.
I looked through the off-topic posts, but the only other entry I found was about walnut trees. Also a lovely wood.
