hi found your site the other day and it looks very interesting, I enjoy working on everything from cars to machining. I live in Alaska and don't have a shop currently so it definitely slows down the projects a lot. I am currently working on a ww2 weasel track rig, I also enjoy welding and fabricating

I plan to take the current cab off and flat bed it behind the drivers seat so I can use it to haul fire wood, I know it is a terrible waste of a collectors item but it is not stock with the bogey wheel system under it and I need fire wood

Hi Matt - welcome to HomemadeTools.net

The weasel track project looks awesome! That's a Studebaker-built rig, as I understand. If it's already been mangled, and it can't reasonably be restored, your plan seems smart. I spend a good deal of time cutting, splitting, and hauling our firewood; that looks like the perfect tool for hauling it.

until I can get the weasel running I am using the snow machine in the background just went and hauled in about 1/2 cord with it today, now I need to rebuild the 2 stage pump on the log spliter it lost the high pressure side so it won't split much right now, at least I won't get bored

    Hi Matt,

    Welcome!

Great project!! I'm all for proper restorations of classic hardware, but if it's really beyond any reasonable hope of doing so, then by all means do whatever it takes to make it suitable for your use.

For those unfamiliar with the Weasel, here's a link to the relevant Wiki page and a photo of a restored unit:
