    A new gentler Photobucket, honest!

A refreshing postscript to the Photobucket failed attempt at ransomware...

When they pay me for all my time spent moving pictures to another hosting site and repairing picture-bearing forum posts, I'll be glad to consider sending them an explanation of what they can do with their newfound generosity and the lubricants required to do it.

While it does sound new and gentler and I am sure there will be many who will find this a more pleasant pill to swallow. I have grown weary of all of the subscription services.
I cannot say whether this is because I am retired and budgetary constraints may play a factor in this or if I am still horn locked to the idea of the 1 time pay life membership. Like many things I had done in the past were ultimately advantageous for me in the long run, of course now maybe not so much for anything new that I may consider.
Since the $ cost averaging + probability of remaining years.
Sorry PB you stung me once a long time ago I consider you a bumble bee not a wasp once is all you get.

But but but - Photobucket has a new CEO!

I believe we will see the pitfalls of not owning your own data repeated various times in this era of the internet, until it's just not done anymore.

There are solutions in the works, but they're certainly nowhere near mainstream. The best candidate I've seen: Urbit

When ever I hear of P2P networks I think of the horrors of the ones that promised to be the greatest thing since sliced bread only to wind up as a repository for trogens, malware, virus plus any&everything else that could destroy your computer.
Many started out with great expectations and usefulness such as napstar , usenet arpanet does anyone remember gnutella?
I lived in a place where if you didn't run Kazza you were severely restricted as to what your ISP would allow you to access. then Kazza became a repository for porn and hackers of the time, this brought about bit torrent I think it may still be around.
No thank you, I'm getting too old for that stuff so I guess I'll just do what I'm doing and if I mess up again and forget to do my weekly / monthly and yearly back ups on multiple hard media storage I'll lose a lot of data like has happened to me before but at least it was mine to lose

Agreed; P2P largely looks so appealing because it's being compared to centralized services, which are even worse.
