Hi All, I just came across this forum this evening. Looks like it might be the place to come for machining ideas and projects.
I'm a retired "machinist" though most of my working years was spent as a tool and cutter grinder. I did get into the tool room as a machinist for three years. Spent about 6 years as a gauge calibrator doing the mechanical side of gauge calibration, mics, gauge blocks, ring gauges, go nogo thread gauge, torque wrenches, dial indicators , etc. Any way upon retiring at a fairly young age the first thing I did was to buy me a Smithy 1220 3 in 1. Not a bad little machine though the round column mill and limited quill travel was pita for some operations. So I went out and bought a Grizzly G0759 with the power feed attachment. Pretty happy with that. I also just recently (a year ago) got my hands on a Harrison Do-All 1530 lathe. With a 7 1/2 hp 3ph motor, it is more than enough machine for any of the projects I have so far. I also have an Enco carbide grinder and an old Foley Sharp All that I had when I had my own backyard sharpening Service.
In addition to that I have fair selection of woodworking machines, table saw, band saw, jointer, wood planer, drum sanders, vertical and horizontal, router table and a bunch of power hand tools. I have a 24 X 30 shop for all of this. That covers about most of my interests and hobbies though our son who lives next door keeps me busy with his maple syrup and honey and saw-milling at times. Looking forward to seeing what is on here.
