    New CNC build

    New CNC build

I have built a couple of cnc machines over the years, both from extruded aluminium (8020) and my second one with a welded frame, both pretty large.

This time I figured I would make smaller one and make it even more rigid and precise for light non ferrous metal cutting and engraving.

So I started collecting scrapped stuff from the dumpster.

    New CNC build-resized.jpg

Some of the stuff I had to purchase, like the steppers, and the ballscrews for the Y and Z axis, along with some belts and pulleys.

All extruded materials for the frame, along with the linear rails and alu plates for gantry sides was dumpster finds.

The large 30mm for the X axis is from a brand new butchered Bosch Rexroth linear unit.
I removed the ballscrew with the thrust bearing and reused the housing (slightly slimmed down) for the gantry
I purchased a 1,5kw spindle off ebay, and it turned out to be a great combo with my salvaged vfd

Cattracks and wiring was from my bottom drawer

I later upgraded the steppers to some slightly larger ones along with the belts and pulleys in a 1:1 ratio for mores speed.

I have attached some videos of the build if you want to check it out:

    Best regards
    Roy

    Thanks Doug.
You are correct, it is VERY time consuming making these videos, but after a while has passed it is fun to look back at, and someone might get some useful information out of it as well. That is rewarding also. Thanks for your vote man. it is much appreciated

Roy, The build was fabulous especially with some pretty spectacular recycle finds. I do wish I could wire that fast ~¿@, but a nice neat job in the micro computer box as well as the trax and the attention to detail with shrink tubing. I love that you showed alignment and tracking measurement, so many don't on such an important step in a 3axis build like this. I've added you Videography to my top 10 list for YT and here! Great attention to those details most take for granted, like shot selection, lighting, framing and the all important in my book to give just enough to see what most of your steps are, speed up accordingly and keeping them under 10 min....Outstanding!! I'm with Doug on the TOW award!

Thanks very much for sharing another great build to HMT!

    PJ

P.S. I've got to find the dumpsters you find!
