    Post New Chum

Hi fellow tool junkies.I am a part time woodworker and tool enthusiast who is allways looking for better ways to do certain projects.I have just joined our local mens shed, where there is a real need for maximising our usefullness of our shed tools.I have been looking at your site for inspiration for some time, and decided to join.I am very new to the net and to forums,so i hope you will be patient with me.

As an aside do you have mens sheds in The USA?

    Hi Heinz,

    Welcome!

I've never heard of the organized "shed" concept and just had to Google it. No, there's nothing like that here in the US of which I'm aware, at least not on any scale beyond the local. Interesting idea, though...

If you haven't already done so, take a look at our Woodworking category. Lots of neat homemade tools there for your perusal.

When you're ready to share some of your own homemade tools, we'd love to see them. Please post them directly in the Homemade Tools subforum. We'll add each one to the database, as well as to your builder page on the site.

Non-tool items should be shared in the Not a Tool, but Homemade subforum.

    Hi Ken
Thanks for the welcome message.Interesting that you don't have the Mens Shed over there, could be because the normal[ if there is such a thing] size home here is to small to accommodate a seperate workshop. Also a lot of the members are getting on a bit in age, some live in retirement villages [hence no room] The Mens shed movement also caters for men to come together just to have a chat , and for company[a lot are widowed] One of the shed rules is that at 10:30 we all down tools for a morning tea/coffee break, when we usually get to Know each other a bit better, and share some jokes etc.It is also a forum for general mens problems[ health, relationships etc ]

Hope you find this of some help understanding the Mens shed concept .It is a great inovation and they are popping up all over the country. The Mens shed Web site is Mens Sheds Men's Sheds AMSA Australian Men's Shed Asscociation if you are interested.

    Hi Heinz,

Very interesting concept. Seems to share some elements with the so-called fraternal organizations (Masons, Elks, Rotary, etc.) over here.

    Thanks for the link!
